Who is this vocational qualification for?

 

· Employees, self-employed or volunteers.

· Candidates working in areas of health and social care, where the focus is hands-on care, enablement care and the development and maintenance of the service users’ independence. 

· Candidates who would usually be delivering care under the supervision of an accountable practitioner, though this person my not always be in the immediate vicinity.

 

What is this training about?

 

· Work-based training

· Based on the national occupational standards developed by Skill for Health, TOPSS, Care Council for Wales and the Northern Ireland Social Care Council. 

· These are government-approved standards setting bodies for the Health and Social Care Sector.

· A modular course of six units made up of two core units, two optional units. Plus two remaining units from either core, optional or additional groups.

· Optional/additional units can be selected according to an individuals working role.

 

As work-based training, our NVQs are designed to improve the effectiveness of your organisation by recognising a candidate’s skills gaps and then tailoring a programme to fill any gaps with quality training.

Unit 28         Supporting individuals to make journeys

Unit 29         Supporting individuals to meet their domestic and personal needs

Unit 210       Supporting individuals to access and participate in recreational activities

Unit 211       Supporting individuals to take part in development activities

Unit 212       Supporting individuals during therapy sessions

Unit 213       Providing food and drink for individuals

Unit 214       Helping individuals to eat and drink

Unit 215       Helping individuals to keep mobile

Unit 216       Helping address the physical comfort needs of individuals

Unit 217       Providing pressure area care

Unit 218       Supporting individuals with their personal care needs

Unit 219       Supporting individuals to manage continence

Unit 220       Maintaining the feet of individuals who require foot care assistance

Unit 221       Assisting in the administration of medication

Unit 222       Supporting individuals prior to, during and after clinical procedures

Unit 223       Contributing to moving and handling individuals

Unit 224       Observing, monitoring and recording the conditions of individuals

Unit 225       Supporting individuals to undertake and monitor their own health care

Unit 226       Supporting individuals who are distressed

Unit 227       Contributing to working in collaboration with other carers

Unit 228       Contributing to effective group care

Unit 229       Gaining access to, and ensuring individual’s home is secure

Unit 230       Managing environments and resources during clinical activities

Unit 232       Protecting yourself from the risk of violence at work

Unit 233       Relating to, and interacting with individuals

Unit 234       Ensuring your actions support the equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities of others

Unit 235       Enabling individuals to negotiate specific environments

Unit 236       Receiving, and storing medicines and products

Unit 237       Obtaining and testing capillary blood samples

Unit 238       Obtaining and testing specimens from individuals

Unit 239       Contributing to the care of a deceased person

Unit 240       Contributing to the identification of the risk of danger to individuals and others

Unit 241       Contributing to the effectiveness of teams

Unit 242       Receiving and passing on messages and information

Unit 243       Monitoring, handling and maintaining materials and equipment

Unit 244       Managing and organising time and activities to support individuals in the community

Unit 245       Receiving and monitoring visitors

Unit 246       Maintaining a safe and clean environment
